I never knew they had harness racing in Argentina!
A 3-year-old son of Shadow Play was victorious in the elimination and final of the Nacional Cup at the Hipodromo de Cintra in Cordoba province, Argentina.
His name is Chucaro Acero Blue Chip. You can google that for a bit more information, although the link I liked best was this one (and I don’t speak the lingo)
Check out his pedigree here, and he doesn’t have any of the Shadow Wave / Adios double ups that I mentioned in a previous blog, but his maternal line is quite a classic of course with Lismore sitting there on the very bottom line.
Hi Bee, just recently subscribed to your blog which I love reading. I am in Sydney and only in the last couple of years become involved in harness racing and interested in breeding. I have a couple of broodmares – one in a syndicate (Kilifi Fire NZ) and the other owned outright (Modern Oro). We are thinking (group decision) of Shadow Play for Kilifi Fire this year and would be interested in your opinion/advice on that match. The second choice is Badlands Hanover. I put Modern Oro to Shadow Play 2012 and were blessed with a superb looking filly last year.
Bec
Welcome to the blog, Bec, I’m delighted you find it interesting. Your choice of Shadow Play for Kilifi Fire looks a very good one to me in terms of pedigree. I like the additional Adios you are putting into the mix with him, and especially the extra Adios Butler he brings on his maternal line – where Adios Butler does a lot of good work on Courage Under Fire’s and Smooth Fella’s maternal line. Your mare’s family is one of those fine but sprawling New Zealand families that have a few enduring strong branches that deliver excellent performers, but many that have been less so. I like the fact that your mare was well tried and proven on the track, not a superstar but consistently competitive. A good one to breed from and a branch that could well take off. I think Shadow Play is a good choice to add some speed again, and also gives you a more commercial foal, should that be required. The only thing I can’t check is compatibility on type and temperament, and you will know your mare far better than me on those scores. I think you’ve done your homework well, Bec. Good luck with the match and keep us posted.
